The Munji language , also known as Munjani , Munjhan, and Munjiwar , is an Iranian language spoken in the Munjan Valley in Badakhshan Province in northeastern Afghanistan . It is similar to the Yidgha language spoken in the upper Lotkoh Valley of Chitral west of Garam Chashma in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ( Pakistan ). Historically, Munji shows the closest possible linguistic affinity to the Bactrian language, which is now extinct . Although Dari Persian is the predominant language in the region, attitudes towards Munji are very positive and few among speakers predict a decline in use.
