The Munro Kerr Mountains are a group of mountains on the Ingrid Christensen Coast of Princess Elisabeth Land in East Antarctica . The peaks of the group rise up on the northeast flank of the Amery Ice Shelf .
The first sighting of the mountains probably goes back to participants in the British Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (1929–1931) on February 9, 1931. The Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson , head of the expedition, named it after Rear Admiral William Munro Kerr (1876-1959), then First Naval Member and Chief of the Australian Naval Staff of the Royal Australian Navy .
