The Munster Blackwater or Blackwater ( Irish : An Abhainn Mhór , "the great river") is a river in Ireland and flows through Counties Kerry , Cork and Waterford . It rises in the Mullaghareirk Mountains in County Kerry and then flows east through County Cork, through Mallow and Fermoy . It then reaches County Waterford, flows through Lismore , then turns south at Cappoquin and empties into the sea at Youghal .
In total, the Blackwater is 168 kilometers long.
It is known as one of the best salmon fishing grounds in Ireland, although salmon stocks have declined significantly in recent years (as of 2009 or earlier).
