Mur plain

Mur level, L-shaped from Graz to Bad Radkersburg

The plainly formed valley of the Mur downstream from Graz in Styria is called the Mur plain .

The Mur plain begins south of Gratkorn in Graz, where the Mur leaves the Middle Mur valley . It stretches as a wide band on both sides of the Mur, initially in a southerly direction , before turning east at the border with Slovenia , to Bad Radkersburg . The systematic structure of the landscape in Styria uses the name Unteres Murtal for this last Austrian section . Then the Mur plain continues following the course of the river to Slovenia (there Mursko polje , German: Murfeld ), Croatia and Hungary . Tertiary sediments of sands, clays and clay marl form the subsoil, overlaid by the gravel of the Mur.

The northernmost part of the Mur plain is also called the Grazer Feld . This extends to the Buchkogel near Wildon . This is followed by the Leibnitzer Feld , which extends to the Austrian- Slovenian state border.
