Marble phase

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Murmelphase (also Murmelrunde, English buzz group ) is a teaching method of cooperative learning that is used in school lessons. In the mumbling phase, students are given the opportunity to speak softly to one another about a question or comment that arose earlier in class. The marble phase is limited in time (usually 2 to 5 minutes) and is carried out as group work with two to five participants. Usually a collection of contributions follows the marble phase.

The goal of the murmuring phase is that students approach what has been said in conversation with classmates, and thus can work out a contribution for the further course of the lesson. This can make it easier for students to participate in the classroom. The method offers the teacher the opportunity to test the knowledge of the participants. The participants can check their understanding of the material and are more willing to address their own comprehension problems in small groups.

“Experience has shown that this 'pre-testing' of one's own ideas on the partner leads to greater participation in the broad spectrum and to significantly more requests to speak.” Due to the lively atmosphere, the mumbling phase can help to activate the learning group. At the same time, the concentration of the participants is impaired by the high noise level. The topic can only be dealt with superficially.
