Musa Mbenga

Musa Saihou Mbenga (* 1961 ) was Minister of Agriculture ( English Secretary of State for Agriculture and Natural Resources ) of the West African country Gambia .

Life

Mbenga graduated from Texas Technical University in the United States and earned a degree in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Plant and Soil Science . He received his Master of Science Plant Breeding and Biometry degree from Cornell University in 1989 .

He worked as a research scientist in the Gambia Department of State for Agriculture until he was appointed to the Gambian cabinet by President Yahya Jammeh in July 1994 . In January 1999 he was replaced by Fasainey Dumbuya in this office.

From 2001 he succeeds Mariam K. Sidibe as managing director of the Comité permanent Inter-Etats de Lutte contre la Sécheresse dans le Sahel (CILSS), an office for which he is elected for three years and has been confirmed for a further second term ( 2004-2007).

Mbenga is married and has four children.
