Musa Qala is a city in the southern Afghan province of Helmand and the name of the surrounding district. It is located in the valley of the Musa Qala River.

During the war in Afghanistan , the Battle of Musa Qala took place here on December 7, 2007 , during which the Afghan National Army and ISAF attacked the Taliban . After three days of fierce fighting, the Taliban withdrew to the mountains on December 10th. The Afghan army officially reported the capture of Musa Qala on December 12th.
