The Corfu Shell Museum (English Corfu Shell Museum , Greek Μουσείο Θαλάσσης Κέρκυρας Museo Thalássis Kerkýras , origin. "Sea Museum") is a shell museum in the seaside Benitses (Μπενίτσες) in the southeast of the island of Corfu in Greece .

Exhibition and history

The museum emerged from the private collection of Napoleon Sagias (Sayas). Sayas had lived in Australia since 1970 and collected mussels and marine animals on numerous trips around the world. After returning to Corfu, he was able to realize his dream of having his own museum. It exhibits marine animals such as corals , sharks , rays , whale bones , echinoderms and “exotic” objects. A shell of the diadem roller screw ( Melo amphora ) was registered for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records due to its size .
