List of shell museums

Shell museums are museums that specialize in the presentation of “shells” (in the international sense of seashells ). The German language only knows the ancient word “ conchylia ” as a translation for seashells , which includes the shells of mollusks (mollusks, especially snails and mussels ) and some other invertebrates. From a biological point of view , the term “ mussels ” is not suitable as a generic term .

Some mussel museums erroneously call themselves museums , they are only exhibitions because they lack the research aspect of the work and the conservation aspect of the scientific processing of their own collection. Many mussel museums are not limited to molluscs, but also show other maritime exhibits such as pearls , corals or amber .
