Flatus vaginalis (from Latin flatus , gas, and Latin vagina , vagina), also Garrulitas vulvae , is the expulsion of trapped air from the vagina . The prerequisite is that air gets into the vagina first. This is then expelled through the natural contraction of the vaginal muscles. Flatus vaginalis is a natural phenomenon . Although the air ejected normally odorless and harmless, the sound of vaginal flatulence can for affected women be uncomfortable and the repeated occurrence can distress trigger.

Occurrence

Flatus vaginalis generally occurs during or immediately after sexual intercourse .

It can also occur after birth , and the associated changes in the mother's vulva and vagina, during the regression of pregnancy .

In rare cases, flatus vaginalis is a symptom of diseases such as a rectovaginal or colovaginal fistula or a vaginal prolapse . It can also occur after vaginal operations.
