Infrahyoid muscles
The following four skeletal muscles are summarized as the Musculi infrahyoidei ( Latin for "lower hyoid muscles ") :
The function of the infrahyoid muscles is, among other things, to pull the hyoid bone down ( caudally ) and to pull the sternum and shoulder girdle upwards (auxiliary muscles when breathing and swallowing).
