The abductor digiti minimi muscle ( Latin for "little finger spreader") is one of the skeletal muscles of the little finger ball ("hypothenar muscles "). It lies there on the very side next to the flexor digiti minimi brevis muscle .

The little finger spreader attaches to the medial (inner) side of the base of the first phalanx of the little finger and its dorsal aponeurosis (firm connective tissue on the back of the finger ).

The abductor digiti minimi muscle spreads (abducts) the little finger from (the remaining fingers) of the hand. In addition, due to its attachment to the aponeurosis dorsalis, it leads to a flexion in the metacarpophalangeal joint and a stretching in the middle and end joints of the little finger ( digitus minimus ).
