The extensor pollicis brevis muscle ( Latin for "short thumb extensor") is a skeletal muscle and one of the deep extensors on the forearm . In the area of origin it is fused with the abductor pollicis longus muscle . The approach crave both muscles pull together through the first tendon sheaths compartment of the extensor retinaculum . Its attachment tendon forms the delimitation of the snuffbox on the spoke side .
The extensor pollicis brevis muscle stretches the thumb to the base and participates in its splaying.
