Extensor retinaculum

The extensor retinaculum is a band-like structure on the dorsal side ( dorsal ) near to the body ( proximal ) part of the wrist . It contains in six subjects, the tendons of the extensor muscles ( extensors ) of the hand , along with their tendon sheaths . It represents the counterpart of the flexor retinaculum on the inside of the hand ( palmar ).

Its function consists mainly in the movable fixation of the tendons of the extensor muscles. This prevents the tendons from lifting up - similar to a tense bow - during extension.
