The musculus scalenus minimus ( German  small stair muscle ; Latin scalenus , Latinized form of ancient Greek σκαληνός skalenos , German 'crooked, unequal' , Latin scala 'ladder, stairs' ; Latin minimus 'very small' ) is a paired skeletal muscle on the chest of humans and belongs to the group of the scalene muscles. It occurs in only about a third of adults. The muscle arises from the anterior tuberosity of the transverse process of the seventh cervical vertebra and attaches to the first rib on the back of the anterior scalene muscle . In addition, muscle fibers radiate into the pleural dome .

The scalene minimus muscle separates the subclavian artery and the brachial plexus, and pressure on these structures can trigger the scalene minimus syndrome .
