The Museo Arqueológico del Puerto de La Cruz is an archaeological museum in the city of Puerto de la Cruz on the island of Tenerife . The museum's collection contains finds and replicas from the time of the Guanches , the indigenous people of the island of Tenerife before the conquest by Castilians at the end of the 15th century.

Creation of the museum

In 1953, the “Instituto de Estudios Hispánicos de Canarias” in Puerto de la Cruz set up the “Sala de Arqueología Canaria Luis Diego Cuscoy” to exhibit the collection of Luis Diego Cuscoy. This previous facility of the museum was closed in 1958. In 1991 the collection was reopened as a municipal museum, expanded to include other donated private collections and individual items. The museum has been redesigned several times.

Location of the museum

The museum is located in a building from the turn of the 18th to the 19th century in the “La Ranilla” district of Puerto de la Cruz. This district is today characterized by tourism. This means that the museum also addresses tourists as a target group. The six exhibition rooms are arranged around a covered patio .
