Philipp da Cunha (born July 31, 1987 in Hamburg ) is a German engineer and politician ( SPD ). He has been a member of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state parliament since October 2016 . He is chairman of the committee for justice, constitution, rules of procedure, electoral examinations, immunity matters, federal affairs and international affairs of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and first deputy to the president of the city council of the Barlachstadt Güstrow .

Life

Philipp da Cunha is the oldest of three sons of the former district administrator of the district Güstrow , Lutz da Cunha. He attended the John-Brinckman-Gymnasium in Güstrow and, after graduating from high school in 2006, studied electrical engineering at the University of Rostock with a degree in engineering. He is a descendant of a Brazilian sailor.

He is married and has two children.

Da Cunha joined the SPD in 2008. He was a member of the state board of Jusos Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and was involved in student policy. He was a member of various self-governing bodies as well as the student parliament and chairman of the general student committee. He has been a member of the district council in the Rostock district since 2011. Since 2014 he has also been a member of the city council of the Barlachstadt Güstrow and first deputy to the president of the city council. Since February 2015 he has been Deputy Chairman of the SPD in the Rostock district. In the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2016 , he won the direct mandate in constituency 16 (Rostock IV district) with 32.9% of the first votes .
