Museo Nazionale della Montagna

The Museo Nazionale della Montagna "Duca degli Abruzzi" (German: National Mountain Museum, also: National Alpine Museum ) was founded in 1874 by the first members of the Club Alpino Italiano (CAI), the Italian Alpine Association, and is located in Turin , Italy on the Monte dei Cappuccini viewpoint .

The museum works on a national and international level with the aim of showing the entire mountain world and its culture. In addition to the permanent exhibition, thematic solo exhibitions are shown.

After more than two years of renovation and refurbishment, the museum reopened to the public on December 11, 2005. The museum is now spread over three floors and a basement for temporary exhibitions, as well as a new roof terrace. In addition to exhibits, the museum houses a documentation center with the CAI library as well as two conference rooms and publishes numerous specialist publications.

It is a founding member of the International Alliance for Mountain Film , an association of global mountain film festivals, which has existed since 2000 .

Special features include a cosmorama set up in 1898 and works by the pioneer of mountain photography, Vittorio Sella . Together with the Piedmont region , it has maintained the fortress museum in Exilles since 2000 .
