The Museum Grafschaft Dassel is a museum in the town of Dassel in southern Lower Saxony . The main theme that gives it its name is the county of Dassel .

history

In 1895, the buildings of the forestry office were built in the city, which went back to the Dassel Forest Inspectorate and to an older Hildesheim district , which included the Hunnesrück office . After the forestry office was relocated to a new building in the early 1970s, the first museum exhibition on the history of the city of Dassel was opened here in 1973. When the building was damaged in various ways in the early 1990s, the exhibition was closed.

In 1993, the city of Dassel bought a half-timbered residential building with two extensions, located on the Spüligbach stream next to the Neimke blanksmith's shop . It was converted into a museum in 2006 after a development association was founded that raised private and public funds. The original room division into rooms and hallways was removed by gutting the house. For the new purpose, the building was divided into several mutually open levels. In 2007 the museum opened.
