Museum of Archeology Thurgau

The Thurgau Archeology Museum is located in the center of the old town of Frauenfeld and is one of six cantonal museums in the canton of Thurgau . The focus of the exhibition is a journey through time from the prehistoric pile dwellers to the Romans to a battlefield of Napoleon from 1799.

history

The Museum of Archeology opened in the summer of 1996. It is located in the former premises of the cantonal remand prison. The Thurgau Nature Museum is also located under the same roof . Previously, parts of the prehistoric and early historical collection were exhibited in the Historical Museum Schloss Frauenfeld . Since opening, the rooms have been redesigned and updated several times.

The museum shows archaeological finds from the Canton of Thurgau since the Neolithic. One focus is on the pile dwellings on Lake Constance. Numerous wood finds from moist soil conservation allow dendrochronological dating. The early Roman times in the region is represented by the settlement Tasgetium (Eschenz). There are also changing exhibitions and the demonstration of archaeological working methods. Themed tours, museum educational activities and excursions are offered regularly .

The museum is operated by the Thurgau Archeology Office. The collection with 100,000 archaeological objects and the entire archive are located in the Thurgau Archeology Office. In addition to the Archeology Museum, artifacts are also exhibited in the respective regional museums such as the Arbon Historical Museum , the Pfyn Transitory Museum , the Turmhof in Steckborn or the Village Museum in Eschenz.
