The Museum of Church History ( English Church History Museum ) is the most prominent museum , which by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is operated. The museum is in Salt Lake City , Utah , across from the west gate of Temple Square . Until November 2008 it was called the Museum of Church History and Art .
Programs and special features
The museum has collections of art, artifacts, documents, photos, tools, clothing, and furniture related to the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints .
International art competition
The museum initiates an international art competition every three years. It deals with issues related to the Church and the Gospel. The media for these competitions are then displayed in the museum. Mormon and Church-affiliated artists contribute to the media.
Volunteers
Apart from the restorers and the administration, the museum's workforce consists only of volunteers. They take turns serving and are required to complete a 16-week training course before leading tours of the museum.

The museum has a shop. Over 200 replicas of the works of famous Mormon artists are sold there. The store also sells historical toys, literature, statues and imitation clothing from the Mormon pioneers.
history
An important founding personality of the museum was Florence S. Jacobsen . She was a restorer and president of the Organization of Young Women in the Church. The museum was consecrated and opened on April 4, 1984.
The museum is open six days a week. Admission is free. The shop is closed on Sunday.
