The Museum of Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural Work is an open-air museum in Börry in the municipality of Emmerthal in Lower Saxony , which shows historic agricultural machinery and earlier agricultural implements from the Hameln-Pyrmont district . It is located in a listed building complex , consisting of a former farm and the church of the former Niederbörry district.

Museum history

In 1980 the association for the collection of agricultural implements was founded in the Hameln-Pyrmont district, which over the years has brought together agricultural machines and implements in order to restore and preserve them. In 1985 the municipality of Emmerthal acquired the ensemble of buildings and had it renovated for use as a museum. The museum opened in 1990. From 1991 onwards, the sponsoring association was renamed the Förderverein Museum für Landtechnik und Landarbeit .

The 8000 m² museum area in the former village area of ​​Niederbörry includes five larger buildings that can be visited. This includes the house on the Grave family's agricultural estate, which was built in 1818 as a hallway. Another building is the courtyard's barn, built in 1851 as a two-story half - timbered building . The facility also includes a historic bakery with a museum café and a building used as a workshop. The Niederbörry church forms the center of the building ensemble. It was built in the 13th century in the Romanesque style and was rebuilt around 1620 with a bell tower incorporating the old structure . Next to the church is the former rectory of the parish , which is also part of the museum complex.

exhibition

The museum gives an insight into rural life from different eras. It addresses the change from manual to mechanized agriculture . Historical agricultural machinery and tractors are exhibited in the outdoor area.

The agricultural machines shown were used in the areas of sowing , harvesting , threshing , drive machines , seed processing , fertilization , beet and potato cultivation . Other exhibition topics are livestock farming , dairy farming , housekeeping , weaving and home slaughter .

In the course of the year, various activities and events take place in the museum area, such as the Christmas market , craft market , music events and village festivals.

At the end of 2018, plans became known to set up a permanent exhibition in the museum about the background of the “ Reichserntedankfeste ” on the nearby Bückeberg . For this purpose, the conversion of a building is planned for around 400,000 euros.
