Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale
The Museum of ArtFort Lauderdale , today NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale , is an art museum in the city of Fort Lauderdale in the US state of Florida . It has been part of Nova Southeastern University since 2008 .
history
The museum opened in 1958 as the Fort Lauderdale Art Center . In 1986 it moved into a modern building designed by the architect Edward Larrabee Barnes with around 7,000 square meters of floor space. In 2001 a new wing was added with an area of around 930 m². The exhibitions are shown on around 2,000 m² and a terrace of around 260 m².
Glackens Wing
The wing of the museum, which opened in 2001, contains the largest collection of works by the American realistic painter William Glackens with over 500 exhibits .
Museum politics
The approximately 6,200 objects include ceramics by Pablo Picasso , contemporary art from Cuba and the largest collection of works by the CoBrA group in North America, as well as the Indian cultures of southern Florida and the Caribbean . The museum also focuses on the presentation of contemporary art.
