Neuthal museum spinning mill
The Neuthal museum spinning mill is a Zurich memory institution. It is located in the hamlet of Neuthal between Bäretswil and Bauma , canton Zurich , in the buildings of the former spinning mill of the cotton industrialist and railway pioneer Adolf Guyer-Zeller .
The museum has been showing the production of cotton yarn on well-preserved and maintained spinning machines from the 19th and 20th centuries since 1993. The historical machines, which were once in use all over the world, were brought back to Neuthal, repaired by experts and restored for the purpose of demonstration. The museum visitors can now experience the creation of cotton yarn from the bale to the finished yarn in several stages of production: bale opening, carding, drawing, combing, pre-spinning and spinning. Specialists demonstrate all the spinning processes on guided tours. The special features of the machines used are also explained with modern audio-visual aids.
The oldest machine, a stretching machine from JJ Rieter from Winterthur , dates back to 1856. Another rarity is also built by Rieter and only rarely seen cars Spinner, called self-actor , who is from the year 1889th A fully equipped spinning laboratory with historical measuring devices and test equipment rounds off the exhibition.
