The Palatinate Musikantenland Museum at Lichtenberg Castle near Thallichtenberg in the Kusel district documents the history of the Palatinate touring musicians , whose heyday was between 1850 and the First World War .

Among other things, historical sheet music, photos of the bands and musicians as well as travel souvenirs from foreign countries are shown. In addition to an extensive collection of musical instruments that once traveled all over the world with the traveling musicians, the work of the instrument makers, which was a flourishing trade at the time, is also documented. Several groups of figures show the life of the musicians and their families. The exhibits come from the estate of the musicians. The visitors can also listen to music recordings of the works of the traveling musicians. The museum also has a historical picture archive, a literature archive and an archive of handwritten notes, which can be used for research on request.

The Palatinate Musikantenland Museum was opened in 1984 in the tithe barn of Lichtenberg Castle (Palatinate) in Musikantenland . It was initiated by the Kusel music pedagogue and regional historian Paul Engel, the longtime director of the Kusel Music Association (West Palatinate Symphony Orchestra) and Musikantenland Prize winner. Paul Engel, himself a descendant of a family of traveling musicians, does meticulous research on the topic and cultivates the memory of the regional musical tradition with his work.
