Ludwigsburg Music Hall

The Ludwigsburg Music Hall at Bahnhofstrasse 19 in Ludwigsburg is a representative, historic hall from the late 19th century .

History and description

After the closure of the palace theater in 1852, there was no room for cultural events in Ludwigsburg. The inns, the old gymnasium and, from 1865, the summer theater in the Betzschen garden were used as temporary arrangements. The Ludwigsburg railway hotel was not built until the 1870s, to which a hall was to be added: the music hall was built in 1889/90. Donated by the factory owner Hermann Franck, a descendant of Johann Heinrich Franck , the building was planned by Albert Bauder and Johann Schmohl , and in 1894 a porch was added, which Bauder also designed. The brick building is decorated with ashlar structure, the decor and the roof shapes are based on the French Renaissance style. At the rear of the hall building accented with towers is a glazed veranda that rests on wooden supports. A large, rectangular hall, surrounded by a two-storey arcade and equipped with a stage room on the south side, was set up inside, furnished by Albert Bauder. In 1936/37 the interior of the building was converted, to which the original design of the ceiling stucco fell victim, as well as the color design of the pillar and column arcades.

In the 1970s the demolition of the music hall was discussed. It should give way to a supermarket. At that time the building was bought by the city of Ludwigsburg. In 1985 it was completely renovated; four years later, it was selected as one of the outstanding buildings in the Ludwigsburg district in a competition organized by the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Architects.

The neighboring old railway hotel was demolished in 1989.

The Ludwigsburg Music Hall is still used for cultural events, including the Ludwigsburg Jazz Club. The rooms are now divided into a ballroom, princely hall, podium, gallery and veranda, and the foyer can also be used for exhibitions, etc.
