Composition Prize

With this composition prize , Salzburg wanted to show itself more “as a center of contemporary art, ... of new music and its protagonists” (according to self-portrayal). From 2009 the music prize was awarded in cooperation with the Salzburg Biennale of the City of Salzburg , the future festival for new music . The endowment was 80,000 euros for the award winner until 2009 and 20,000 euros for the sponsorship award winner. The Salzburg Music Prize was initially awarded every three years. From 2009, the award took place every two years, due to the shortening of the award interval, the endowment of the prize was now 60,000 euros.
