Mustafa Demiral

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mustafa Demiral (* 1937 in Turkey ; † March 9, 1993 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) was a Turkish migrant who died of a heart attack in 1993 after being threatened with a gas pistol by two Germans on the street .

The young Germans had verbally harassed Demiral, who had heart disease, whereupon he defended himself. Thereupon the men - both were members of the Republicans at the time - aimed a gun at Demiral's head (some sources report that the perpetrators wanted to depict an execution scene), whereupon the threatened 56-year-old walked 50 meters further, collapsed and died a little later of a heart attack .

The perpetrators were sentenced to four years in prison for bodily harm resulting in death. In the grounds for the verdict, the Duisburg judge spoke of a “misanthropic disposition” on the part of the accused.

The case caused a sensation in the German and Turkish press, led to spontaneous demonstrations against violence and is included in a list compiled by the Amadeu Antonio Foundation that documents the deaths of right-wing extremist violence in the Federal Republic of Germany after reunification . In addition, the description of the case is part of a well-known traveling exhibition .
