Mustafa Khaznadar (Arabic مصطفى ﺨﺰﻨﺩﺍﺭ, DMG Muṣṭafā Ḫaznadār), actually Giorgios Kalkias Stravelakis (* 1817 in Kardamila on Chios ; † July 26, 1878 in Tunis ) was Tunisian Prime Minister (Grand Vizier) of Greek descent from 1837 to 1873 .

Life

After his father was killed in the run-up to the Chios massacre in 1821, Giorgios and his brother were abducted as slaves to Izmir and Constantinople and finally sold to the Bey of Tunis. As Mameluck , he rose to be the second man in the state within the royal family . His time as Grand Vizier of the country is marked by corruption, some of which he organized himself. It is said that his overthrow was brought about by French agents in 1873. A street in Tunis is named after him. and his formerly richly furnished palace houses the National Theater.
