Mustafa Turunçoğlu

Mustafa Turunçoğlu (* 1932 in Afyonkarahisar , Afyonkarahisar Province ) is a former Turkish Vice Admiral who was the first commander in chief of the Coast Guard ( Turk Sahil Güvenlik Komutanlığı ) between 1982 and 1984 .

Life

After attending school, Turunçoğlu completed an officer training course at the Naval School ( Deniz Harp Okulu ), which he graduated in 1954. He then found use as a naval officer on various ships and command posts in the Navy ( Türk Deniz Kuvvetleri ). After attending the Naval Academy ( Deniz Harp Akademisi ) he became the commander of the minesweeper TCG Sapanca (M-517) in 1967 and was then employed in the Naval Command Operations Department ( Donanma Komutanlığı ) from 1969 to 1970 . He was then commander of the TCG Gelibolu (D-346) , a destroyer of the Cleaves class, between 1970 and 1971 , and from 1971 to 1972 the commander of the TCG Adatepe (D-353) , a destroyer of the gearing class. After a subsequent assignment between 1972 and 1974 in the General Secretariat in the High Command of the Navy, he was Commodore of the 2nd Destroyer Flotilla from 1975 to 1976 ( 2nd Muhrip Filotillası Komodorluğu ) and from 1976 to 1977 Chief of Staff of the Fleet Command.

After being promoted to Flotilla Admiral ( Tuğamiral ) on August 30, 1978, Turunçoğlu was initially commander of the naval school and then between 1981 and 1982 commander of the mine fleet ( Mayın Filosu Komutanlığı ) stationed in the naval base Erdek Deniz Üssü in the Sea of ​​Marmara .

On August 30, 1982 Turunçoğlu was promoted to Rear Admiral ( Tümamiral ). Six days earlier, on August 24, 1982, he was the first to take over the post of Supreme Commander of the Coast Guard ( Sahil Güvenlik Komutanlığı ) and held this post until he was replaced by Rear Admiral İlhan Aran on August 13, 1984. He himself then acted between 1984 and 1985 as commander of the Gölcük Deniz Ana Üssü naval base in the Sea of ​​Marmara and from 1985 to 1987 as commander of the warship squadron ( Harp Filosu Komutanlığı ).

Turunçoğlu was promoted to Vice Admiral ( Koramiral ) on August 30, 1987 and then served as Chief of Staff of the Navy ( Türk Deniz Kuvvetleri Kurmay Başkanı ) between 1987 and 1990 , before becoming Commander-in-Chief of Naval Command North from 1990 to 1992 ( Kuzey Deniz Saha Komutanlığı ) was in Istanbul , which is responsible for the Marmara Sea, Black Sea , Bosporus and Dardanelles , among others . He retired on August 30, 1992 when he reached the age limit.

Turunçoğlu, who is married and has two children, speaks not only Turkish but also English and German .
