Ugbad Yusuf Mustafa (born March 9, 2001 ) is a Norwegian rapper who appears under the name Musti or Ugbad Musti .

Life

Mustafa grew up with seven siblings in the Oslo district of Tøyen . Her grandfather was the mayor of the Somali city ​​of Burao . Since her family lived in the English city of Milton Keynes between 2004 and 2011 , she began her school years in England. At the age of 12 she spent eleven months in Somalia, where her family looked after her grandfather until his death. Mustafa first wrote English lyrics, according to her own account, because her Norwegian vocabulary was too small due to her time in England. She later switched to Norwegian.

In 2019, before she even released her first single, she appeared at major festivals such as Øyafestivalen and Lairofestivalen and was seen in the media as a "hope for the future". She could also be heard as a guest contribution to the song Malaika by the Norwegian rapper Arif . Mustafa is under contract with the music label Nora Collective , which is part of Sony Music .

In February 2020 she released her debut album Qoyskayga , followed by the EP Mellom høyblokkene in June . In April 2020 she also released the short film Riyo , which was made in connection with her debut album.

reception

Musti's debut album Qoyskayga received mostly positive reviews. In a review by the Dagbladet newspaper , it got five out of six possible points.
