Muuga is the largest and deepest commercial port in Estonia .

The port of Muuga is administratively part of the city of Maardu in Harju County . It is located 17 km from Tallinn in the south of the Bay of Muuga ( Estonian Muuga laht ) on the Gulf of Finland . The bay is about 20 m deep.

The port of Muuga was put into operation in 1986 and has been modernized several times since then. A large part is designated as a free port . The port area is 451 hectares and its aquatorium is 752 hectares. At 18 m it is the deepest commercial port in Estonia and is ice-free all year round. It has very good connections to the Estonian rail and road network. The airport of Tallinn is located about 15 km away.

The port plays a major role in oil transport, container shipping, timber trading and the transport of steel and coal; Most of Estonian sea trade and 90% of Estonian transit trade are carried out through Muuga.

The owner is Tallinn Hafen AG (Estonian AS Tallinna Sadam ), founded in 1996 , which is 100% owned by the Estonian state.
