The Muuratjärvi [ ˈmuːrɑtjærvi ], sometimes also called Muuramejärvi or Muurajärvi , is a lake . The Muuratjärvi covers an area of around 32 km²; the level is on average 90 meters above sea level .
Muuratjärvi is located in the area of the municipalities of Muurame and Jyväskylä ( Korpilahti ) in the Central Finland region . It is located west of Lake Päijänne , into which it drains via the Muurame River, which is only a few hundred meters long. The community center of Muurame is located on the isthmus between the two lakes.
Notable islands in the lake are Vuohensalo, Iso-Selkäsaari, Vähä-Selkäsaari, Kaita, Myhkyrä, Jahko and Palosaari.
