Korpilahti [ ˈkɔrpilɑhti ] ( Swedish. Korpilax ) is a former municipality in central Finland and is now part of the city of Jyväskylä .

Korpilahti is located 30 kilometers south of the city center of Jyväskylä on the banks of Päijänne , Finland's second largest lake, in the middle of the Finnish Lake District . The municipality of Korpilahti had a total area of ​​794.6 km². The Päijänne divides the former municipality of Korpilahti into a western and an eastern part, which are connected by the Kärkistensalmi bridge. In total there are around 200 lakes in the area of ​​the former municipality, almost a quarter of the area is covered by water. The last population of Korpilahti was 5,061.

Korpilahti was from 1691 a chapel parish of the parish Jämsä , from 1861 then an independent parish . In 1921 Muurame (including Säynätsalo ) broke away from the community. At the beginning of 2009, Korpilahti was incorporated into the town of Jyväskylä together with the rural community of Jyväskylä , which made it the seventh largest city in Finland with around 130,000 inhabitants.

One of the geodetic survey points to the list of World Heritage of UNESCO belonging Struve arc is Korpilahti on the hill Oravivuori. The wooden church of Korpilahti was built in 1827, the free-standing church tower dates from 1885.
