Pierre Semmler (also known as Peter Semmler ; born April 19, 1943 in Gladbeck ; † September 9, 2011 ) was a German - French actor .

life and work

Semmler completed an apprenticeship as an electrician , locksmith and welder and then worked on the assembly line at Ford . After his dismissal, he led an unsettled life, was homeless and earned his living, among other things, as a pusher and salesman, worked in Berlin in civil engineering and on a French military base. In 1964 he hitchhiked to North Africa and worked as a radio mechanic and barman in the Tibesti Sahara and in Chad, Cameroon and Gabon. This was followed by stays in Paris, New York, Sweden, Ireland, the Maldives and Seychelles from 1970 to 1974. He then studied direction, stage and acting in Paris and finally received a diploma from the Cours René Simon .

In the mid-1970s, Semmler played minor roles in such films as Christian Gion's Das Freudenhaus on Rue Provence with Anicée Alvina . In 1979, in the TV six-part Die Insel der 30 Tode , he played alongside Claude Jade the German Otto, the henchman of Count Vorski ( Jean-Paul Zehnacker ) tricked by Véronique . This role made the attractive blonde popular in France. He now played leading roles more often, for example as lover Berthold Meyer in A Man of My Size (Un homme à ma taille) and as Steff Müller in Jean-Pierre Mocky's La Machine à découdre .

In addition to the island of 30 deaths, he was best known in Germany in the role of superior Walter Jülich in the investigative team of the crime series Nachtschicht , which he played from 2003 to 2010. In the 1980s, Semmler mostly appeared as a “German on duty”, as in Alain Delon's thriller Three Men Must Die . Since the 1990s he played in a few episodes of German TV series.

He died on September 9, 2011.
