Muuruvesi [ muːruvɛsi ] is a former municipality in the Finnish countryside Savo . From 1971 Muuruvesi belonged to the city of Juankoski , with which it was incorporated into Kuopio in 2017 .

Muuruvesi is located eleven kilometers southwest of the city center of Juankoski and 53 kilometers northeast of Kuopio in the eastern Finnish landscape of Northern Savo. The church village of Muuruvesi lies on the banks of the lake of the same name. 372 people live here (as of December 31, 2011). The former municipality of Muuruvesi covers a total of 299 square kilometers. The last population of the municipality was 4,209 (as of 1963).

Muuruvesi broke away from Nilsiä in 1899 as an independent community . The industrial town of Juankoski originally belonged to Muuruvesi before he went into business for himself in 1925. In 1971 Muuruvesi was incorporated into Juankoski together with Säyneinen .

The church of Muuruvesi was completed in 1904 according to plans by Josef Stenbäck . It is a stone cruciform church in the style of national romanticism .
