The Muzeum Historii Polskiego Ruchu Ludowego (German: Museum of the History of the Polish Peasant Movement ) is located in the historic Żółta Karczma inn in the Warsaw district of Mokotów . It is dedicated to the 350-year history of the rural-peasant political movement in Poland.

The museum is located at Aleja Wilanowska (No. 204). It was founded on March 8, 1984 by the Polish Ministry of Culture and Art (Polish: Ministerstwa Kultury i Sztuki ). The museum is a scientific, research-oriented and educational institution that is committed to collecting, maintaining, exhibiting and passing on documents and exhibits from the peasant political movement in Poland. The collection, which has been compiled since it was founded, has around 45,000 items. Most of this collection comes from domestic and foreign donors. The museum does not have a permanent exhibition, but changes the focus of the exhibits several times a year.

The yearbook Rocznik Historyczny Muzeum Historii Polskiego Ruchu Ludowego has been published since the museum was founded. The editorial board consists of the director of the museum, Janusz Gmitruk, the professors Stanisław Dąbrowski and Kazimierz Przybysz and the academic staff Jerzy Mazurek and Arkadiusz Indraszczyk. The museum also published around 130 books and 20 exhibition catalogs by 2010.

Collections

The institution's research and collection focuses are:

  • Poland's struggle for independence in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries - particularly the uprisings of 1794 ( Kościuszko uprising ) and 1863 ( January uprising )
  • Poland's struggle for independence in the twentieth century - concerning the periods 1914 to 1921 and 1939 to 1945
  • Souvenirs and personal belongings from activists of the peasant movement such as Izydor Mermon, Stefan Pawłowski, Stanisław Osiecki, Tadeusz Chciuk-Celt and Stanisław Mikołajczyk . Wincenty Witos' correspondence from 1923 to 1924 has also been preserved
  • Collection of around 230 flags from political parties and other Polish mass organizations that were active in Poland and abroad
  • Documentation of the activities of the Polish Peasant Party PSL in exile
  • Painting and sculpture, which deals with rural life, and landscape painting : Vladimir Tetmajer, Antoni Piotrowski , Karol Popiel, Stanisław Baja, Maciej Milewski, Jan Ślusarczy, Józef Opal, Wincenty Wodzinowski , Henryk Szczygliński, Ivan Trusz, Józef Rapacki, Stanisław Czajkowski , Teodor Axentowicz and Stanisław Prauss
  • Collection of tapestries and weaving art
  • Documentation of the activities of peasant parties and organizations
  • Collection of posters, newspapers and leaflets (also from the respective occupying powers)

Branch offices

The museum has a branch in Piaseczno (founded in 1966, address: Piaseczno k / Gniewa ) and Sandomierz (founded on May 1, 1985, address: Ulica Rynek 9 ). The museum also owns the Blank Palace in Warsaw, although it is not used by the museum itself but is rented out.
