Mykolas Römeris (* on May 7, 1880 in Bagdoniškis , Rokiškis Rayon , Lithuania ; † February 22, 1945 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian constitutional lawyer and professor of constitutional law at Kaunas University and Vilnius University and judge.

Life

Mykolas Römeris ( Polish : Michał Pius Römer, German : Michael von Römer) came from the Baltic German, partly Polonized noble family Römer . He graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Saint Petersburg , the University of Krakow and the University of Paris . Although he came from the Polish culture, he decided after 1920 to help build the young Lithuanian state and worked as a professor at the Lithuanian University in Kaunas and then in Vilnius. He is considered a co-founder of Lithuanian constitutional law. He was also a judge in the District Court and the Vyriausiasis Tribunolas (Supreme Court). In 1932, 1938 and 1939 he served as ad hoc judge at the Permanent International Court of Justice in The Hague in a total of four cases .

The Mykolas Romeris University in Vilnius has been named after him since 2004.
