The Mylius My 102 Tornado is a single-seat light aircraft made in Germany.

history

As early as 1970 wanted Hermann Mylius , the designer of the MIC 101 from which emerged from MBB BO 209 Monsun a single seat for the performance aerobatic develop. Using many Monsun components, a cost-effective solution was created under the name “Mylius 102 Tornado” as a single-seat aerobatic aircraft with a 200 HP Lycoming AIO-360B1B engine that drives a Hoffmann three-bladed variable-pitch propeller.

The My 102 V1 started for the first time on July 7, 1973 in Neubiberg with Dipl.-Ing. Hermann Mylius at the wheel. During the presentation the aircraft was flown in aerobatics by Hermann Liese in front of a large audience. Shortly afterwards, the aircraft successfully took part in the German aerobatic championship in Marl . The aircraft has flown with great success in almost all German competitions for many years. Pilot Walter Eichhorn became German champion / winner of the German championship of the semi-acro class in Dierdorf-Wienau in 1980 with V1 . Mylius built a second Tornado in 1984 with a modified, thicker wing profile and a higher approved strength of ± 9g, which made the My 102 V2 fully competitive again. The My 102 V2 took off for the first time on April 3, 1984 in Neubiberg, just like the V1 over a decade earlier, the first flight was again carried out by the builder Hermann Mylius himself. At the first official public presentation, the V2 was flown in aerobatics by pilot Hermann Liese in front of a large audience. The D-EMYM was no longer officially called Tornado, because the naming rights had been acquired in the MBB Group and the jet-powered fighter aircraft Panavia was now named MRCA Tornado. But the "nickname" Tornado has always been part of the My 102.

The D-EMYS is listed as a fully approved LFZ with identification sheet and type approval at the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt . It is currently the only flying Mylius 102 tornado. The machine will be demonstrated at flight days and is stationed at Breitscheid Airport. The Mylius 102 V2 with the registration D-EMYM is currently, after a long period of storage, in the long-term reconstruction at the owner of the D-EMYS.
