Myxotheca is a genus of soft-wired, marine unicellular organisms from the group of foraminifera .

features

The housings are round to semicircular and have a diameter between 0.16 and 0.56 millimeters, the wall is gelatinous with individual agglutinated particles that are only loosely attached to the outside. The granular cytoplasm is reddish and does not differentiate between ecto- and endoplasm .

The individual cell nucleus measures between 35 and 79 micrometers in diameter. The pseudopods reach an extension of up to 5 centimeters.

Change during the breeding Myxotheca the color from green to bright orange or bright colors cream with brown particles and orange oil droplets. The following applies to Myxotheca arenilega : The agamont is larger than the gamont , the gametes have two flagella (= biflagellate), fertilization takes place via gametogamy . The diploid and soon polynuclear schizonts arise from it . Inside, the haploid gamonts develop through multiple division, from which the gamete nuclei then arise.

Systematics

The genus was first described by Fritz Schaudinn in 1893 , the type species is Myxotheca arenilega .
