Myzus is a genus of plant lice (Sternorrhyncha) from the family of the tube aphids (Aphididae). The animals are considered pests ; the main damage to plants is not caused by sucking off plant sap, but by the transmission of numerous phytopathogenic viruses .
features
Representatives of the genus Myzus are colored yellow, green, red, brown or black. The winged specimens also often have dark horizontal stripes. The body is hairy with short hairs and sometimes has small tubercles on the first to fourth abdominal segment . The antennas consist of six and, more rarely, five segments. The length of the antennas is usually smaller than the body, which measures 0.15 to 0.25 millimeters. The mostly triangular or pentagonal cauda is comparatively short.
Way of life
Most Myzus species are dependent on several host plants . However, some species can also get by with one species. A host plant belongs to the genus Prunus in almost all species .
