Nävelsjösten
The Nävelsjösten ( Samnordisk runtextdatabas Sm 101) is one of the 30 England rune stones , six of which are in Småland . It is on the village road in Nöbbeleholm near Nävelsjö in the municipality of Vetlanda in Småland in Sweden .
The rune stone is a 2.5 m high, 0.4 m wide and 0.3 m thick column made of granite . It is one of the 30 England rune stones and was erected in memory of a father who died in England and who was buried by his brother in Bath , Somerset , England . Helge buried Gunnar in a stone box and then had Gunnar's son Gunnkel erected in Nävelsjö. The inscription is on two sides. One narrow side of the stone is provided with a Christian cross together with the serpentine ribbon.
The translation of the text reads: “Gunnkel placed this stone after Gunnar, his father, Rode's son. Helge put him, his brother, in Bath in a stone coffin in England. "
