Junonia goudotii is a butterfly ( butterflies ) from the noble butterfly family(Nymphalidae) that occurson some East African islands. The species was dedicated to the French explorer Jules Prosper Goudot .

The wingspan of the moth is about 50 millimeters. There is no sexual dimorphism . The basic color of the upper sides of the wings is chocolate brown. Two narrow red-brown cross bars extend over both pairs of wings, the outer one containing some very small white dots. There are also two red-brown blemishes on the front edge of the front wings. The anal angle is pointed, sometimes slightly elongated. On the brown marbled undersides of the wings, the drawing of the forewings shimmers through somewhat faded.

Similar species

Moths of the genus Junonia , which show a dark brown wing base color, for example Junonia natalica , Junonia stygia or Junonia gregorii, occur on the African mainland and thus have no geographical overlap with the island dweller Junonia goudotii .

distribution and habitat

Junonia goudotii occurs in Madagascar , Mauritius and the Comoros . The species prefers to colonize savannahs and forest edges.

Way of life

The moths fly in several generations throughout the year, mainly in July and October. They visit different flowers to take in nectar. Details on the species' way of life have yet to be researched.
