Entrance to the Nörgelbuff on Groner Straße in Göttingen

The Nörgelbuff is a traditional live club in Göttingen that focuses on concerts (mostly by regional bands and musicians), readings and disco evenings.

history

On May 28, 1970, a group of Berlin students opened the Nörgelbuff club in an old vaulted cellar in downtown Göttingen . In the premises of the Nörgelbuff at Groner Straße 23, there was a wine tavern with the name “Plaudertasche” (1951–1956) and a wine cellar with the name Intermezzo (1960–1970). When it was founded, the managing director of the Nörgelbuff was the cabaret artist Rolf Linnemann , who up until that point had been the director of a youth center in Göttingen. The name Nörgelbuff came about because Linnemann wrote a number of “buff poems” during his time in Berlin (a “buff” is a kind of goblin ) and was also of the opinion that the Göttingen students nagged too much. In the pre-feminist 1970s, Linnemann also announced in the “ Göttinger Tageblatt ” that a nag buff “is a goblin who likes to pinch women in the a ...”. At that time, the Nörgelbuff's program concentrated entirely on live events, mainly from the fields of folk music and cabaret . Artists such as Otto Waalkes, Hannes Wader and Ulrich Roski performed there .

In 1979 the Nörgelbuff was founded by the newly founded association Kleinkunstbühne e. V. taken over. Furthermore, one concentrated on live events; expanded the musical spectrum towards blues and rock . There was also live music every day the Nörgelbuff was open. In 1981, however, the decision was made to pay more attention to quality instead of quantity. This decision was preceded by several complaints about the poor quality of the live programming. From around 1988 the program was increasingly opened towards independent and punk .

In 1990 the Nörgelbuff was taken over by the brothers Agi and Taki Koukiotis. The association Kleinkunstbühne e. V. ceased its activity from this point in time. The Koukiotis brothers wanted to break away from the image of the live club and increasingly opted for events without live music. However, the concept did not work. Bankruptcy had to be filed after just 8 months. Subsequently, a new wave discotheque called Con Cave opened on the premises , but at the end of 1991 it also filed for bankruptcy.

In 1992 the Nörgelbuff was reopened by Vasili Pnevmatikos. The new owner relied increasingly on live events. However, they were not limited to regional bands, but also booked internationally known artists such as the Lemonbabies or Colin Hay .

In 1999 the brothers Thasso and Nathan Tasidis took over the Nörgelbuff. Although there was no major change in the concept, the Nörgelbuff had to close on New Year's Eve 2000 until further notice due to a lack of visitor numbers.

In February 2002 Gonzo Fibiger (died 2005, former male singer and organizer at the musa cultural center), Mick Noonan (singer / songwriter and former managing director of the Irish Pub Göttingen) and Michael Schluff (musa eV and founder of the Rockbüro Göttingen) took over Nagbuff. In addition to live concerts, the focus was now on interactive projects such as The Gong Show and the Open Stage, etc. Despite the success of the new concept, the Nörgelbuff was closed again at the end of 2005, as the lease contract was not due to a major investor's planned redesign of the Nikolaiviertel was extended. However, the investor jumped off shortly before the buff closed, but at that point the closure could no longer be averted.

In 2006, the Sugar discotheque opened on the premises. It primarily organized salsa parties and wanted to use the club for catering during the week. However, this concept was not accepted and Sugar closed again at the end of 2006. In May 2007 the Nörgelbuff was reopened under the direction of the rock office.
