NK Čakovec is a Croatian football club from the northern city of Čakovec .
history
The club was founded in 1920 under the name Čakovečki športski klub ( ČŠK for short ). Later he also played under the names Jedinstvo Čakovec and MTČ Čakovec , as he was sponsored by a local textile company called "MTČ" at the time. At the beginning of the 1990s, the club then took over its current name. In the mid-1990s, the club also carried the name NK Čakovec Union for some seasons , as it was sponsored by a local pastry shop called "Union".
2000 managed NK Čakovec promotion to the 1st division, but could only play there for two seasons and rose again at the end of the 2001/02 season in the 2nd division. After financial difficulties and the sporting descent, the newly founded club Međimurje Čakovec took over a large part of the team in 2003 and played in the highest Croatian class from 2004 to 2008. In 2007 NK Čakovec was even relegated to the 3rd division, in which he still plays today.
Stadion
The Mladost Stadium is shared with city rivals Međimurje Čakovec . It holds 6,000 places and has a natural grass pitch which is surrounded by a cinder track. An earth wall is built around it, which serves both as flood protection and as a natural grandstand . Slight modernization measures, especially in the press area and the booths, are necessary to meet the new requirements of the Croatian Football Association for the second division. These requirements have been based on those of UEFA since 2006 .
