NOYB - European Center for Digital Rights (own spelling also noyb ; from English none of your business , it's none of your business ) is a non-governmental organization based in Vienna , which is committed to the enforcement of data protection within the European Union . It was founded in 2017 by Max Schrems, among others . It is financed through donations and public and private funds.

On May 25, 2018, the day on which the General Data Protection Regulation began to apply, NOYB filed a complaint against Google , Instagram , WhatsApp and Facebook because of their non-transparent practice of processing personal data for advertising purposes. In January 2019, on the basis of a complaint from NOYB , the French data protection supervisory authority CNIL imposed a fine of 50 million euros on Google for obtaining non- transparent and thus legally ineffective consent from Android users to process their personal data for targeted advertising .
