The locomotives of the NS 2000 series were express train steam locomotives of the Dutch state railway company Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), which came from their predecessor Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen (SS). The wheel arrangement was 2'B1 '( Atlantic ).

Since the heavy mail trains increasingly ran with two locomotives of the 300 series , the SS needed locomotives with greater power than the 800 series . In 1900, five were from Peacock and Company Beyer, in Manchester made locomotives built as a series 995-999 into service. In order to keep the axle pressure below 15 tons, the locomotives received a set of wheels behind the driving axles . The locomotives ran unevenly, which the SS could not improve despite many design changes. On the 995, the front bogie was moved twenty centimeters forward.

After the merger of the HSM and SS operations and vehicles in 1921, the locomotives were given the NS numbers 2001-2005. The NS continued the efforts of the SS to improve the running properties, also without success. The 2005 was given a bogie from the NS series 3700 in 1923 . Ultimately, the locomotives were only used in freight train service. Between 1930 and 1932 the locomotives retired from service. After being decommissioned in 1932, the 2005 was converted to the NS 169002 resistance car for use in measuring trains . Initially, the 2001 should also be converted into a resistance car, but this did not happen because of the high costs. The 169002 was used until the early 1950s and was scrapped in Nuenen in 1955 .
