NT Roads is the road and transport authority in the Northern Territory , Australia . It is responsible for the maintenance, expansion and operation of the nationwide road network. NT Roads is part of the Department of Lands and Planning . In addition to road traffic, the authority is also responsible for ports, boat docks, airports, rail and local public transport.

The serviced road network has a total length of 36,000 km with 210 bridges, as well as 260 km of urban cycle paths and 55 rest areas. 14,000 km of it are part of the national road network and are financially supported by the Australian government. Of the total of 36,000 km of roads, 8,800 km are asphalt , 8,600 km are gravel, the rest is unpaved.
