The Nabaltec AG is a chemical company with headquarters in Schwandorf in the Upper Palatinate . Nabaltec produces halogen-free, flame-retardant fillers and environmentally friendly additives for the plastics industry as well as ceramic raw materials for the refractory industry and technical ceramics.

history

The company goes back to the aluminum oxide production of the Nabwerk of VAW Aluminum AG in Schwandorf, which was taken over by Nabaltec GmbH in 1995.

In the following year the company was acquired by today's member of the board, Johannes Heckmann, and other people. In 2005, Nabaltec founded a joint venture called Nashtec with Sherwin Alumina, a US aluminum oxide manufacturer, in Corpus Christi , Texas . In March 2017, Nabaltec AG acquired the remaining 49% of the shares in the Nashtec joint venture.

In September 2006 the company was converted into a public limited company. The share was traded in the Entry Standard of Deutsche Börse AG and was part of the Entry Standard Index . A listing in the Scale segment has existed since March 2017 .

In the financial year 2017, Nabaltec achieved a turnover of 168.6 million euros net profit of 11.5 million euros. That year the company employed 476 people.

Products

On the basis of aluminum hydroxide and aluminum oxide, Nabaltec develops, produces and sells highly specialized products in the two product segments “functional fillers” and “special oxides” on an industrial scale.

The “Functional Fillers” division comprises halogen-free, flame-retardant fillers , environmentally friendly additives and boehmite . Flame-retardant fillers make it more difficult for plastics to ignite (e.g. wiring, insulation and insulation materials in tunnels, airports and high-rise buildings), are non-toxic and reduce the development of smoke gases that are harmful to health and the environment. Additives protect plastic from decomposition through heat, light (UV radiation) and oxygen. They replace stabilizers containing heavy metals in PVC processing. Boehmite is used in the electronics industry for the flame retardancy of heavy metal-free circuit boards.

In the “Special Oxides” division, Nabaltec produces ceramic raw materials and compounds from aluminum oxides . These are used, among other things, in the refractory industry, technical ceramics or in the manufacture of wear and electrical ceramics. Examples of products are spark plugs or high-voltage insulators.
