Night sharks

The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

The night sharks (formerly Hypoprion ) represent a genus of three or four closely related species within the Requiem sharks (Carcharhinidae) that is no longer recognized today. It included the Atlantic night shark ( C. signatus ) and the two Indo-Pacific species Pondicherryhai ( C. hemiodon ) and Hard-nosed shark ( C. macloti ). The position of the smooth- tooth blacktip shark ( C. leiodon ), which was first described in 1986, is uncertain, but due to the shape of its teeth it was also placed with the night sharks . In the past, the night sharks were listed as a separate genus Hypoprion , but more recent studies place them on the genus Carcharhinus .

Appearance and characteristics
